Seriously cool offices

How important is office design to your productivity?

I work in a loft in Soho (which was quite a change from the sterile blues and grays of my former offices in the World Financial Center). No walls, 70+ people and beer in the fridge all combine to make a loud and always lively work environment. I'm not sure if all the noise has really helped my productivity though...

A happy work environment makes sense to me. I have not yet experienced life outside the cubicle. Even as a consultant; it's cubicle after cubicle.

Cool office, I visited a friend of mine who worked at Yahoo Corporate in Santa Clara and he had every kind of gaming console in his cube... pretty cool day job.

It's definitely a nice change from cubes just a bit of an adjustment since you can hear basically everything that happens in the office at all times. We have an admin who loves to bark (she's an actress), all the QA guys are constantly screaming at the games they're playing and when the World Cup was going on, at least 30-40 people were crammed in front of the plasma and cheering/booing for the ENTIRETY of the games. It makes working a challenge sometimes but getting to play Guitar Hero to blow off steam is definitely a great perk.
